How To Check Your Transmission Fluid

Changing transmission fluid

Knowing how to check your transmission fluid regularly means you’re making an important investment in your vehicle before bigger problems arise. How often do you check your transmission fluid? You should do it monthly. Need to know how to check your transmission fluid? Keep it here because Burger Chrysler Jeep is about to fill in Brazil drivers on how to do it. While you’re here, check out our service tips.

Checking Transmission Fluid: Step-by-Step Guide

The question of how to check your transmission fluid is a simple one. Check out these steps:

  1. Turn your Sullivan engine on for a few minutes because you’ll want your engine to be warmed up. Make sure you’re in park, too.
  2. Find the transmission fluid dipstick. On front-wheel drive cars, it’s typically to the right of the oil dipstick. Check your owner’s manual to be sure.
  3. Remove the dipstick and touch the fluid, moving it around between your thumb and forefinger. The fluid should be nearly clear with a pink hue. If it’s dirty or smells funky, take your Clinton car in to be serviced.
  4. With a rag, wipe the dipstick. Place it back in the vehicle. Pull it out once more and check the level. If it’s beneath the “full” mark, it’s time for a refill.
  5. With a funnel, fill the transmission fluid until you hit the “full” mark. Be sure not to overfill.

Checking the Fluid in a Sealed Transmission

You might find that there is no dipstick to be found. If this is the case, your car has a sealed transmission and there’s no dipstick as part of your car’s infrastructure. If your car has a sealed transmission, don’t try to check the fluid for yourself because you might damage the vehicle. Instead, schedule service with Burger Chrysler Jeep to get it checked out by the pros.
